Steve Brown

Biography
Steve Brown was born in the Sonoran Desert, grew up in the Santa Rita Mountains and resides in Tucson. For many years, he and his wife Alice owned a meat market in Vermont, where he became a skilled meat cutter. He also helped establish a publicly funded alternative high school in Vermont. After Vermont, he earned a master’s degree at Boston College, and undertook community organizing in the fields of public health and international human rights, and then semi-retired in 2014 to Tucson, where he has been a part-time teacher of Spanish. As an elder, author, educator and community organizer, Steve continues to follow his vocation in public and private sectors through “Commonwealth Solutions,” a consulting firm that fosters dignity and healthy communities. Steve is a founding member of the Desert Sage School board and is currently serving as its Vice-President.
