Biography
Erin grew up in the Bay Area, California surrounded by her large Irish family. In school, she spent 1st-7th grade in an Exception Education classroom, learning how to manage her Auditory Processing Disorder. In middle school, through the guidance of her favorite teachers, she learned to love the challenge of school and slowly started to see the power of having to work really hard to understand a concept. Also in middle school, Erin was introduced to an outdoor adventure-based program for girls. She spent 4 years at GirlVentures as a student, before being hired by the company and working her way up to top leadership roles. Driven by passion for outdoor education, Erin spent 10 years working in Adventure Education, leading backpacking and sea kayaking trips for youth, before taking what she'd learned and transitioning towards Public Education. This is Erin's 5th year working in a traditional classroom. She will be working part time at Desert Sage High School while she pursues her Master's Degree in Business Administration. She hopes this degree will give her the skills she needs to create a program that bridges the divide between the outdoors and traditional public education. Erin is thrilled to be working at Desert Sage: where the positive influence of nature and experiential learning are valued so highly. In her free time, Erin loves hiking and biking with her two dogs, as well as cooking and sharing food with her closest friends.
